We noticed it before we knew what it was: another 오프뷰티 (opeu byuti), Off Beauty, storefront, in a neighborhood that didn’t have one the last time we were there. Then another. It’s the kind of store that seems to be multiplying every time we’re back in Korea, and once we actually shopped one, it was obvious why — the discounts are real, the stock is genuinely useful, and every visit feels a little like a treasure hunt.

What Off Beauty actually is

Off Beauty is Korea’s first discount beauty outlet chain, run by Q&B International, a subsidiary of Daemyung Chemical. It opened its flagship store in Seoul’s Gwangjang Market in May 2025 and has grown fast since — over 30 stores by mid-2026 by some counts, 40+ by others, with a stated target of 100 stores nationwide by the end of 2026, including an expansion to Jeju. Seoul locations include Gwangjang Market, Seongsu, Myeongdong, and Ikseon-dong, with stores also in Busan, Daegu, and Suwon.

Why it’s so cheap

The pricing isn’t a gimmick — it comes down to how Off Beauty buys. Instead of going through distributors like most retailers, they buy directly and in bulk from over 200 brands, everything from luxury names like Sulwhasoo, Dior, and Lancôme down to trendy mid-range labels like 3CE, Dr. Jart+, and Rom&nd. A lot of it comes through full-buyout deals — brands clearing out packaging renewals, overproduction, or discontinued shades — which is how a moisturizer that normally runs ₩19,000 ends up marked down to ₩3,000, or a hair dye at 93% off for just ₩1,000. Discounts across the store generally run 20-90% off retail.

Most of what’s on the shelves still has 1-1.5 years of 유통기한 (yutong gihan), shelf life, left — the steepest discounts tend to be on the items getting closest to their date. It’s genuinely earned the nickname Korea’s answer to Costco, or a “K-beauty treasure hunt,” and some industry watchers see it shaping up as a real challenger to Olive Young. The vibe couldn’t be more different, though: Off Beauty leans into stacked, warehouse-style shelving rather than Olive Young’s curated, colorful merchandising. It looks more like a discount grocery 아울렛 (aullet), outlet, than a beauty boutique — and that’s part of the charm once you’re used to it.

Shelves of toner pads and peeling pads at Off Beauty, including PDRN Tension Toner Pad and 5 Green Calming Toner Pad, each with discount price tags

Toner pads and peeling pads take up entire shelving units on their own — this is a fraction of one aisle, and every single item here has its own discount tag.

What’s actually worth buying

Not every category is an equally safe bet. Sheet masks, sunscreen, color cosmetics, toners, and supplements are the categories that move fastest and are generally considered reliable buys. Fragrance is the one category worth being cautious about — there’s been a past authenticity issue in that category specifically, so it’s not somewhere we’d take a chance.

Whatever you’re buying, check the 유통기한 and the seal before you commit — most of it is a genuinely good deal, but it’s still worth a quick check rather than assuming everything on the shelf is equally fresh.

A shelf of vitamin ampoules at Off Beauty — niacinamide, retinol, and panthenol serums — each tagged with a 76% discount bringing the price down to ₩7,000

Shelves like this are exactly what we mean — wall-to-wall vitamin ampoules, each with an electronic price tag showing the same steep cut: 76% off, down to ₩7,000 a bottle, on serums that would normally run closer to ₩29,000.

Dr. Melaxin Melting Cleanser and Dermafirm Hydra Foaming Cleanser on an Off Beauty shelf, tagged at 85% and 75% off

We picked up the Dr. Melaxin Melting Cleanser ourselves — 85% off, down to ₩5,900 — along with a couple of the vitamin ampoules pictured above. Both were still well within their shelf life, and at that price there was no real reason not to try them.

The part that makes it fun: finding the big brands

The 20-90% 세일 (seil) is the headline, but the real appeal is not knowing exactly what you’ll find. Inventory rotates weekly, so it’s genuinely treasure-hunt shopping — one visit might turn up a well-known luxury name at a fraction of its normal price, and the next might not have anything from that brand at all. That unpredictability is the whole point: you’re not going in with a shopping list, you’re going in to see what’s there.

If you’re visiting as a tourist

Roughly 70% of customers at the flagship location are tourists, and Off Beauty is set up for it — bring your 여권 (yeogwon), passport, since you’ll likely qualify for a tax refund on top of the already-discounted price. Between the outlet pricing and the refund, it’s one of the better-value stops we’ve made on any recent trip.

Worth seeking out

If you’re used to Olive Young’s curated shelves, Off Beauty takes some recalibrating — it’s stacked, it’s warehouse-style, and what’s in stock this week might be gone next week. But between the real discounts, the categories that are genuinely safe buys, and the occasional big-name find, it’s earned a spot on our list of places to check every time we’re back in Korea. If you spot one you haven’t been to yet, it’s worth the detour.
